Instrument: Clarinet
Occupation: RN; currently labor and delivery nurse at Southeast Hospital. In the past, worked several years at a rural hospital in Elllington, in all aspects of nursing. I was a school nurse for Jackson Schools.
Number of years playing in the Jackson Municipal Band: Over 23 years. I played in the band when I was pregnant with Alex who turns 23 in July. I played several years before then, but do not know when I started.
Personal music history: I started playing in 5th grade at Ellington, Mo. My band instructor, Charlie Vaughn, brought my clarinet to me at my home because I had chicken pox and couldn’t go to school. He didn’t want me to get behind! I still stay in contact with Mr. Vaughn, who is active in a local church choir. I played my clarinet all thru high school and also played in the Golden Eagles at SEMO. Played in the SEMO almuni band a couple of times.
Other hobbies: Spending time with my family; Tae kwon do (brown belt); camping, hiking, canoeing; working in my yard; quilting; reading
Why do you play in the Jackson Municipal Band? I love playing in the JMB and am so thankful for the opportunity Mr. Leist gave me to play. I’ve always enjoyed playing in band and appreciate the opportunity to continue to do so. Playing in the band is good for my heart, soul and mind.
